Lunch Before We Go

What do you do when it's 100 degrees and you should be packing for England?
Go to lunch at The Terraces.

Not just any lunch...and not just any place.

This is a special lunch in the vineyard.

Great wines...

Lots of great wines...more on the food after we get back.

Questions to Ponder

Did you know?

* American Airlines saved $40,000 by eliminating one olive from each salad served in first class.

* The abbreviation ORD for Chicago's O'Hare airport comes from the old name 'Orchard Field'.

* KLM is the world's oldest airline and was established in 1919.
You'll have to wait until May 27 for my next entry. I'm going across the pond to visit our son and daughter-in-law in Cambridge, England. I'll tell the Queen "hello".

Del Dotto Winery

Del Dotto has two locations. This one is toward the south end of the Silverado Trail in Napa. It just looks like it should house a winery.

Actually, inside are caves and more caves...

Caves filled with barrels and more barrels...

Barrels filled with delicious drink...

At Korbel Champagne Winery in Guerneville, bottles used to be filled like this. Wonder how many they broke? Lots.

Bottles were rotated by hand...and with this little candle as the only light.

One of their original labels.

Old Sacramento

Old Sacramento shows visitors the way it used to be with its board walk sidewalks, saloons, and general stores. Sell your gold dust like they did back in Gold Rush days.

Leave on the next stage.

Gold and jewelry were stored in heavy duty safes.

And, of course, the US Mail was delivered.

Pasta Prego Desserts

One reason to go to Pasta Prego in Napa, California, is the awesome pasta. Chef Marco out-does himself every time.
Another reason to go there is the desserts...Creme Brulee for one.

Flourless Chocolate Torte with Raspberry Sauce is another...

Of course Tiramisu is a favorite...
